Since its inception, WE-AFEO has conducted many activities for the benefit of women engineers in ASEAN. It is important for ASEAN women engineers “to ensure the engineering profession values, supports and celebrates the contributions and achievements of women in engineering” which is the vision of the organisation. The proposal for the formation came about during the mid-term meeting of AFEO held in June 2012. The meeting was conducted simultaneously with the successful event of Women in Science, Engineering and Technology Conference (WiSET 2012) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. After months of deliberation, the organisation was officially approved in principle on 19 December 2012 at the 30th CAFEO held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The regulations was then approved on 17th June 2014 at the 13th Mid Term Meeting of AFEO Board and endorsed on 12th November 2014 at the 32nd AFEO Governing Board meeting. WE–AFEO WAS FORMED WITH THE MISSION “TO BUILD A NETWORK CONNECTING WOMEN ENGINEERS AND STRATEGIC ALLIANCES AMONGST ENGINEERING PROFESSIONAL BODIES TO INSPIRE, SUPPORT AND RECOGNISE WOMEN ENGINEERS IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CONTRIBUTION TO THE SOCIETY”. WOMEN ENGINEERS – ASEAN FEDERATION OF ENGINEERING ORGANISATIONS54 Welcoming dinner for YEAFEO members attending CAFEO 37, in Jakarta Indonesia, hosted by PII in the presence of the Governor of Jakarta, Dr. Anies Baswedan THE ORGANISATION55 YEAFEO YEAFEO was then approved in principle for endorsement and ratification by the constituent members of the 6 founding young engineers of ASEAN engineering organisations on 28th November 1994. The 6 organisations were Pertubuhan Ukur, Jurutera & Arkitek Brunei Darussalam (PUJA), Institution of Engineers Indonesia (PII), Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), Philippine Technological Council (PTC), Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) and Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT). Since its formation, YEAFEO has been very active at the regional level, holding successful events such as annual conferences, technical visits, webinars, sharing sessions, networking dinners and many more. ASEAN Handshake by the leaders of YEAFEO from various countries member organisations after the country report presentation THE ORGANISATION The formation of YEAFEO is in pursuant to Article 6(c) of the Joint Communique of the Governing Board of AFEO issued on 19th November 1993 CAFEO-11 (Singapore). This organisation is formed with the following objectives: • To promote understanding, goodwill and co-operation amongst young engineers in the members’ national engineering organisations. • To promote and exchange ideas, experiences and to discuss problems of common interest amongst national engineering organisations and their members. • To support and assist the purposes and objectives of the AFEO as stated in its Constitution and By-Laws. YEAFEO WAS FORMED IN THE SPIRIT OF DEVELOPING YOUNG ENGINEERS AT THE ASEAN LEVEL. THEY HAVE BEEN THE BACKBONE OF ORGANISING CAFEO, TAKING CARE OF THE INTEREST OF YOUNG ENGINEERS IN THE REGION.
