< Previous116 M a RCHING FORW a RD It is a great honour to be given the opportunity to pen a few words as the closing remarks in this commemorative book that highlights the forty illustrious years of aFEO. aFEO will continue the great relationship with its members, helping and supporting each other with the engineering development of each country. Moving forward, aFEO is committed to pursue the agenda of mobility of engineering professions across the region. It is time for us to pool our expertise together to work towards ‘aSEaNISaTION’. We value our cultural diversity as they define who we are and makes us, aSEaN, unique in every way. I would also like to see aFEO to continue to spearhead engineering sustainability in this region by looking at every possible means on how engineering can contribute in making sure the future generations can still enjoy the world. We need to realign our direction to be guided by the seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). We need to leverage on our engineering skills, knowledge, and camaraderie to help the aSEaN region achieve a level where everyone can enjoy the abundance of wealth that nature has provided us. There is enough to be shared with all. The aFEO family will continue to strengthen our partnerships with all member countries as mentioned in SDG #17. Stronger ties translate to stronger willpower to ensure that we take care of each other. Ultimately, this partnership will continue to flourish further into trades, education, and resources optimisation with all nations. We may be apart from each other by miles of land and water, but with the development of virtual facilities, we can strengthen our relationship. If there is anything good about the pandemic, it has made the aFEO family closer than ever with more activities for the member countries to tap into each other’s core expertise. This is an exciting moment for aFEO. Remember that forty years is just a young adult stage because aFEO will continue to grow stronger than ever in the next forty years and beyond. Thank you. Ir. Mohd Khir bin Muhammad aFEO Secretary-General 2022 IEM Vice President CLOSING REMARKS BY THE AFEO SECRETARY-GENERAL 2022118 AFEO 40TH ANNIVERSARY THE aFEO GOVERNING BOaRD HaS SELECTED THE aFEO 40TH aNNIVERSaRY LOGO CREaTED BY PII TO BE THE OFFICIaL LOGO OF THE ORGaNISaTION’S aNNIVERSaRY. The three parallel lines forming the number “40” reflects the three engineering principles: keeping it simple, using thought provoking processes and communicating effectively. The four flames represent the four decades of aFEO. The flames’ deflection symbolises forward acceleration into the future with increasing intensity to demonstrate that the organisation is getting stronger with time. Gold is aFEO’s corporate colour, which can also be seen on the 10 blades that are part of the aFEO logo. Gold illustrates maturity, even though the organisation is relatively young. Optionally, the logo also stands out proudly on a brown colour (of the earth and environment) background, which represents aFEO as an organisation that supports sustainability development goals.
